David, The weather couldn't have been more agreeable when we arrived on Wednesday evening. Bootstrap was so beautiful inside and out that out of five sisters, I was top sister for the day. Everyone agreed it was the highlight of our trip. Thank you, Patricia
David, Just wanted to drop a line and tell you what a great time we had (again) at Bootstrap. We had everything we needed and enjoyed the quiet and beautiful scenery. We hope to get back soon. Thanks again. Regards, Dennis
Hi David, We had a great time! I'm sorry I haven't responded before now, but we
jumped right back into the fast lane as soon as we got past Brenham. The
house and the grounds were unbelievable and we were extremely comfortable
making ourselves at home. I hope we put everything back where it belonged!
We can't wait to come back as we have a score to settle with Mr.
Catfish..... we landed 4 in the 5-6lb range but lost a few that seemed to be
a little healthier.
Good Morning David, We had the time of our lives this weekend!!! The house and the property fit our personalities and you were right, your website doesn't convey the beauty and comfort you have created. Our weekend wedding getaway was exactly what we wanted. We appreciate the basket of goodies, the champagne and chocolates and the countless other personal touches you set out. We felt so at home and welcome. The last minute pre-wedding jitters were certainly staved off by the surroundings.
We hope we put everything back as you would expect. We left while the dishwasher was still running and took most of the trash with us. We had a slight accident with one fishing pole - it got wrapped around one of the pedals on the boat and the tip broke off. We also lost several hooks to the hungry fish - and couldn't find a tackle box to put the poles back ready to use again. Other than that - I believe we put everything back in order.
We really do hope to make Bootstrap our anniversary destination so if there is anything we could have done differently please let us know. Our hearts are at home in the country and now at Bootstrap too. We will send you some pictures if you like, once we get them developed. Thanks again for everything!
David, we had a blast. Sorry I didn’t send an email earlier but I had a contractor arriving at the house early Monday morning to be here 3 weeks for repairs/paint/etc. and I was scrambling to get ready after being gone all weekend.
The Bootstrap is great… wonderful… fabulous. I like the location, the way it is decorated with the Texas theme (I’m a proud Texan), the amenities, the cute little notes, and especially the porch. The solitude was what everyone needed; just to be away from all the noise of the big city and a chance to leisurely play bridge. My sister loved it as did the other two friends. None of them had ever traveled much in that area so we ate at Royer’s Friday night, played bridge; Texas Star Café Saturday morning (I thought a touch of the local flavor would be interesting), played bridge; snacks for lunch at the Bootstrap, nap, went to Round Top at the new Coffee House; play bridge; eat at Fishes and Loaves, play bridge; Sunday light breakfast at Bootstrap, play bridge… start feeling sad because we have to leave…but that’s a good thing. I always want to leave wanting to come back.
It was so peaceful and accommodating to all of us and we talked about how we’d like to come more often so I’m sure you’ll be hearing from me again. I do want to tell you about the leak. There was water standing on the kitchen/dining room floor and we couldn’t figure out where it was coming from since none of us had spilled anything. The girls upstairs had both had showers that morning so we determined that it was coming through the ceiling. In fact, the floors look like maybe it’s happened before. Anyway, we didn’t use the upstairs shower again and all showered downstairs so it wouldn’t leak again. I spoke to Maxine about it and left some paper towels where the water was on the floor.
The ducks are precious and fun to watch while sitting on the porch. One of the girls wanted to feed the ducks but your note said you were introducing them to the wild so we thought that wasn’t a good idea. In fact, if you don’t want them to be fed, please add that to your note so next time we’ll know for sure.
I’ve stayed in lots of B&B’s but really enjoyed having the whole house to ourselves. You’ve really done a great job. If I owned it, I’d be up there more than in Houston . It was a perfect getaway for all of us. We took pictures so if any of them show how great the place is, I’ll email you. Thanks again and regards.
I
have had the pleasure of staying at the Bootstrap
on two separate occasions. In Nov. of 2005, five lady friends
and I spent a long weekend. We enjoyed it so much we returned
again last June. The decor is delightful, the porch is relaxing.
Best of all, there were so many beds, we each had one to
ourselves. This is a great place for a women's getaway weekend.
I highly recommend it.
We
had a good time. Yes, indeed. The Bootstrap
is very comfortable. We spent most of our time in the great
room downstairs swapping family stories. Your place was just
the right size to accommodate us.
David,
we loved it. There were 5 of us. My mother,
sister and her fiancé joined
me and my husband. We really appreciated the welcome
basket and snacks. The house was impeccably clean and
welcoming. On Monday I sent out a note with a description
of The Bootstrap to many of my friends and colleagues
(including the website info) and told them of the fabulous
weekend (or week-long) getaway we had found.
Thank you so much for sharing the Bootstrap with us. It
was like stepping back in history with all the comforts of
today.
We
had a wonderful time David. We love how relaxing
the house and porch was. We can't wait till October, 2007.
You did an amazing job on that house. It's beautiful. Thank
you! Sherry
 Sorry I
haven't responded sooner. We left Round Top and went
to Dallas to visit with children and grandchildren and
just got back
today. We had a super time. You really have a treasure
in The
Bootstrap. It was a very relaxing weekend for the three "old" couples.
We enjoyed sitting on the porch in early mornings for
coffee and late evenings for wine. We are hoping to be
able to
return in the Fall when the weather cools down. Thanks
for your
hospitality and the nice magnet. I was the lucky recipient
since I made all the arrangements. Hopefully everything
was in good shape
and we didn't make too big a mess and you will let us come
back. Please let me know if there are any additional charges.
Thanks
again.
We
just got back from our four week jaunt,
the highlight of which was the 2 weeks at at your place.
It was all that we had dreamed it would be. And it is an
excellent jumping off point for seeing the area. There is
so much to see within a hundred mile radius. And good weather
prevailed. What more could we have asked for?
I
live in Plano (Dallas area)
now, but was born and raised in Sweden.
There is a group of us (5-10) people that
go every April. Last year my cousin from
Sweden came to visit and came with us on
our road trip to Round Top and is now "hooked" her and her husband and possibly
my aunt and uncle will be planning their trip here in 2007
around the Round Top dates....Her "carry ons" are
maxed out every time (I think that's why
she wants to bring her husband this time)
more bag allowance - How fun is that!
Last
time she was here I remembered her buying some great African
masks and the vendor thought that it was so funny how a
Swedish woman* came all the way to Round Top, TX USA to
buy African masks. Having visited her this summer, the
masks have found a home above her fireplace in her living
room.”
*Can you imagine someone traveling from Sweden to shop
in Round Top to by African masks?
 Just
a little background on the trip... Not that you ask for
it but your place, while an investment for you, did our
family a world of good.
My husband lost his father in October of 2005, my father
died 5 months later in March 2006. Both had cancer and both
were supposedly in remission.
We found
out the hard way they were not when they both became horribly
ill and suddenly passed away. My father was the obvious
head of our family, his death has affected our family in
every facet. He and my mother were very successful owning
their own business for 50 years. My mother has never been
away from her home without my father, this was her maiden
voyage... for the first time since March, she actually enjoyed
herself. She and my father owned race horses and cattle in
Mexia Texas, a small town in central Texas. I grew up there
every weekend and summer of my life until 5 years ago. This
was a very gentle reminder how to get back to basics... Thank
you for your hospitality, we regained more than you know.
